The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique

As an accurate observer of the ‘creative process’, Michael Chekhov investigated the interplay between psyche and body, between ‘intangible and tangible’. He found simple and clear tools for the actor, based on the powers of Concentration and Imagination, the Psychological Gesture, the Imaginary Center and Atmosphere.

Applied in practice, these techniques enable the actor to discover his/her character in a relatively short period of time. Chekhov’s method is not a mere technique though. All the elements of his method go beyond intellect, private experience and the mere business of producing art. They open doors to your own creative potential.

Michael Chekhovs technique has been a great inspiration for actors such as Anthony Quinn, Yul Brunner, Marilyn Monroe, Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Anthony Hopkins.

His technique has been misunderstood in Japan; what is worse, it has been taught in the wrong way. That caused a lot of confusion and doubt about the technique. Michael Chekhov Tokyo desires to create a platform where actors can learn the technique comprehensively. To achieve the goal, it has invited a master teacher and introduce the module programme from Michael Chekhov Europe for the last three years.
